Continued Partnership for Sustainable Energy between China and Denmark

The development of sustainable and renewable energy in China was a top priority when Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and the President of China Xi Jinping met on 24 April 2014.
The Chinese National Energy Administration and the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Building renewed their engagement from 2012, with a new Memorandum of Understanding.


The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark arranged the State visit to China with conferences and networking meetings arranged for Danish companies engaging in China. Director Benny Mai for DONG Energy New Bio Solutions held a presentation at the International Bioenergy and Biomass Utilization Summit (BBS 2014) in Shanghai and at the large China-Denmark conference in Beijing.


At the conference in Beijing Mr. Mai addressed the topics of biomass, waste and new biofuels. He strongly acknowledges the importance of the strengthen collaboration between Denmark and China, as he says: "From DONG Energy we are very pleased with the continued focus by our two countries on the development of intelligent ways to use biomass", furthermore he continuous: "we believe that DONG Energy in close cooperation with our Chinese partners can benefit from each other’s’ strengths to develop mutual beneficiary growth in using biomass for producing both 2G bioethanol and green power".  


This collaborative agreement between China and Denmark is composed by a Joint Renewable Working Group that will look into learnings from Denmark’s green energy development and provide different roadmaps for clean and sustainable energy sources in China. Hereunder, also the development of an intelligent use of biomass.


According to the Danish Energy Agency around 500 Danish companies are conducting business in China, which makes China the single largest trading partner to Denmark outside of the European Union. Several of these companies engage with energy technology and export green energy technology and sustainable energy solutions.
